Girl Scouts Spend some Time with Molloy Nurses
On Sunday, February 5, nurses from Molloy's RN completion program spent the afternoon with senior Nassau County Girl Scouts from Manhasset. Each of the scouts were getting ready to start college in the fall and in anticipation for this new chapter in their lives, the nurses presented information on how to stay safe and healthy while away at college. Topics included making the right decisions about drugs, alcohol and academic integrity; managing stress, sleep and caffeine; nutrition, illness detection and treatment; obtaining help while away from home and issues surrounding physical safety on and around a campus. Not only did the nurses provide this information in the form of lectures, skits and interactive exercises, they provide each scout and their parents with written materials to take with them when they go.
All of the girls remarked on how much they were not aware of prior to this activity, and now, after meeting with these nurses, felt much more prepared. Parents of the scouts thanked the nurses for providing such valuable information and handouts.
