DesLauriers Honored as AVCA Division II Coach of the Year

The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Head coach Kevin DesLauriers as the 2017 United States Marine Corps/AVCA Division II Coach of the Year.
In a historic first season at the helm of the maroon and white, DesLauriers guided the Lions to the program's first East Coast Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance after going 6-24 in 2016.
After a 2-1 start, Molloy exploded to a 10-game win streak, including back-to-back five-set victories over conference foes LIU Post and New York Institute of Technology. Against the Bears, the Lions rallied to victory after dropping the first two sets- changing the tone of the season going forward.
After finishing at the top of the ECC, DesLauriers and the Lions opened its first postseason contest in nearly 10 years with a three-set sweep of the University of Bridgeport. Molloy then faced NYIT for the third time this season to determine the winner of the Championship. Once again, the maroon and white went the distance, bringing home the hardware in a thrilling five-set victory.
In the NCAA Tournament, the second-seeded Lions dropped the first two sets to No. 7 Saint Anselm College before once again coming from behind to take the final three sets and advance to the semifinal round. The historic season game to a heartbreaking end as Molloy fell, 3-2, to No. 6 American International, putting the Lions at 26-6 on the year, the program's first-ever 20 win season.
On the year, DesLauriers, who was also honored as the AVCA East Region and ECC Coach of the Year, led a number of players to postseason awards, including the ECC and AVCA East Region Rookie of the Year in Kacey Affrunti. In total, the Lions combined for four ECC All-Conference selections, two D2CCA All-Region selections, and four recognitions from the AVCA.
