Design Concepts Come to Life

Art 103, Three Dimensional Design is an introduction to sculpture and design concepts. This semester the students have created projects using a variety of materials, like wire, cardboard, clay, plaster, and wood Three Dimensional Design Students withTheir Artto understand the specific properties of each material and how it relates to the design and art concepts. One project is a wire gesture drawing.

‚ÄčThe other project is based off of the concept of multiples. We did an in-class project where each student designed a ceramic flower which when put together made a bouquet. They also were given a pack of note cards from the bookstore. They had to fold 10 note cards in different ways to create a well-designed shape. Once they selected a folded note card, they needed to connect 2 of the same, then 4, 8, 16, etc. The final piece has more than 75 connected pieces creating a modular sculpture from the initial design.
