A Marvelous Opportunity: Business Student Interns at Comic Book Powerhouse

Junior Business Management major and Professional Communications minor Angelica Lopez secured her first internship as a freshman and has continued to add to her resume ever since. At Junior Business Management major and Professional Communications minor Angelica Lopezjust 20 years old, Angelica has interned for four Fortune 500 companies, including Ameriprise Financial, Canon, Amazon, and now Marvel Entertainment. Angelica tells us about her social media internship at Marvel, her advice to other students, and her career aspirations.

How did you get this latest internship?

I found the internship online and knew I had to apply. This is actually the first time Marvel has had a social media intern. The position appealed to me because I love comic books and superheroes. I also had experience working with social media. Last year, I served as the Social Media Editor of MolloyLife, where I am now Co-Editor-in-Chief.

Social media marketing is a hot industry right now. What do you think sets you apart from other internship applicants?

Many applicants are Communications majors. As a Business major, I am able to stand out. I also really enjoy researching trends and running analytics, and not everyone who is interested in social media likes doing those things.

How did you find out about Molloy?

A teacher at my high school recommended that I attend Molloy's Business Bootcamp the summer before my senior year of high school, so I did. After the program, Professor Bier invited me to attend the Business department's Internship Panel while I was still in high school. Actually, in March, I am going to be on the other side of the Internship Panel, talking about my internship experiences.

What advice would you give other students looking for internships?

If you want something, go for it. You have to hustle.

Will you pursue a career in social media after graduation?

I haven't made up my mind yet! I am interested in event marketing and communications. I enjoy working in different fields, so I won't be limited when I'm searching for job opportunities post-graduation.
