Assistant Professor in Digital Humanities and New Media (Tenure-Track)

Molloy College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Digital Humanities and New Media. The program is housed in the Department of English at Molloy College and is home to interdisciplinary teaching and research that foregrounds civic and social good. Our students go on to work in industries such as television, social media, non-profits, and other related industries, as well as enter graduate programs. Digital Humanities and New Media is one of nearly two dozen academic disciplines reconfigured within a new School of Arts and Sciences at Molloy College. As the College seeks to continue to add value as one of the most affordable private institutions in the region, the founding of the new School of Arts and Sciences plays a major role in the college's future strategic goals.

  Candidates should have a defined research agenda, the ability to teach a variety of foundational courses in the field of new media and digital rhetoric, and experience teaching courses in these areas. Applicants should also show interest or experience in pursuing grant-funded research and teaching opportunities. Preference will be given to candidates who have media production skills (in web, video, or interactive media) and a scholarly and/or pedagogical interest in digital civic engagement, particularly how digital technology interfaces with and disrupts structural inequalities along axes of identity and subject formation (race, gender, sexuality, etc.).  

The primary professional responsibilities of Molloy's faculty are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the College, profession and community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in department, school, and campus-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. The successful candidate will also be committed to the academic success of all of our students and to an environment that encourages and celebrates diversity and differences. The successful candidate will work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A PhD in English, Rhetoric, or a related area. Consideration will be given to ABD candidates in some very limited circumstances.
  • Demonstrated research agenda as well as a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching are expected.
  • A commitment to teaching excellence in an inclusive and diverse setting.
  • An ability to involve  and mentor  students in research  and/or to provide  them  with experiential learning opportunities.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated potential to receive grant funding for research and programmatic activity.
  • Ability  to  work  in  a  cross-disciplinary  fashion  to  develop  innovative  curricular programmmg.  

Salary: Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
