Poor Art Student...10!|

The Molloy College Art Gallery is proud to present Poor Art Student... 10!, an exhibition displaying the work of current art majors including painting, sculpture, drawings, prints and ceramics. Poor Art Student is curated by Cristina Artusa, M.S., Art Gallery Assistant Director. This is the tenth anniversary of this student exhibition. Poor Art Student will be on view from January 14 through February 13, 2014.

The closing reception is scheduled for Wednesday February 19, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the Public Square Art Gallery located in the Public Square building. The public is invited to attend.

Imao Keinen
(1845-1924)
Four Seasons

The Frank and Gertrude Kaiser Art Gallery at Molloy College will present the works of Japanese Ukiyo-E painter, Imao Keinen (1845-1924) from November 6 through December 19.

Imao Keinen was born in Kyoto, where he studied Ukiyo-e painting with UmegataHyakunen. In 1880, he began to teach as a professor at the Kyoto Prefecture School of Painting. He was a frequent exhibitor and prize winner at many shows and exhibitions in Japan and in Paris. In 1904, he became a member of the Art Committee of the Imperial Household and a member of the Imperial Art Academy and in 1907 was a juror for the first "Bunten" or Japanese Art Academy, the highest ranking art organization in Japan.

An important Ukiyo-e painter, he specialized in Kacho-ga (flower and bird prints) with very realistic detail. He is best known for these albums of prints which were printed in 1891.

The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and two hours before every event in the Madison Theater. "The Berndt Toast Gang"
A Long Island Art Group of America's Famous Cartoonists"

The Frank and Gertrude Kaiser Art Gallery at Molloy College will present the work of "The Berndt Toast Gang" from September 12 through October 25.
This Long Island Based group is comprised of some of the world's most famous cartoonists and include the work of Archie, The Phantom, the Lockhorns and many others. Artists include: Ray Alma, Sy Barry, Howard Beckerman, Garrett Bender, Tony D'Adamo, Dan Danglo, Steve DuQuette, Anton Emdin, Jeff Fisher, Joe Giella, Stan Goldberg, Bunny Hoest, Sandy Kossin, Bell Kresse, Joe Leonard, Arnie Levin, Mike Lynch, Marty Macaluso, Don Orehek, William Pardue, Helene Parsons, Helen Murdock-Prep, John Reiner, Adrian Sinnott, Tony Stevens, Tony Tallarico, and Joe Vissichelli.

The group is over 45 years-old and while members have come and gone they enjoy their company so much that they continue to meet regularly.

The exhibition will include examples of their most famous illustrations and the artists will be there at the opening reception to meet their fans and have an informal signing of their work.

The opening reception will be on Thursday September 12 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

July 5, "DESIGNED"
The Frank and Gertrude Kaiser Art Gallery at Molloy College will exhibit, "DESIGNED," which focuses on artist-designed album cover art from the 1930's to 2013. Artists include Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Richard Diebenkorn, Damien Hirst, Bernard Buffet, Rene Magritte, Robert Crumb, Gerhard Richter, Heinz Edelmann, H.R. Giger, Solve Sundsbo, Robert Mapplethorpe, Marq Spusta, Ed Beardsley, Peter Blake, Josef Albers, John Lennon, and Francesco Clemente.
The illustration cover art will be accompanied in some cases by the original art. Artist-created cover art has been an instrumental force in the history of album cover design. Original music from artists like the Velvet Underground, Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, Alice Cooper, Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, Sonic Youth, Patti Smith, Coldplay and 30 Seconds to Mars will be played in the gallery to accompany the art.

The exhibition runs from July 5 until August 15. This exhibition is curated by Yolande Trincere. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For additional information contact the Art Gallery at 516.323.3195 or email artgallery@molloy.edu.

April 1, "The Menagerie"
The Frank and Gertrude Kaiser Art Gallery at Molloy College is proud to present "The Menagerie," an exhibition of the senior projects of graduating Fine Arts majors and Visual Arts Education majors at Molloy College. The exhibition will be on view from May 5 through June 28, 2013. 
Artists are Ivy Chiu, Alexandra Feliciano, Alfeen Hasmani, Chantal Lockward, Kaitlin Meehan, and John Weinbrenner.

The opening reception is scheduled for Sunday, May 5, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. in the Frank and Gertrude Kaiser Art Gallery located on the second floor of Public Square, Room 280. The public is invited to attend.

January 4, Faith Ringgold's "Tar Beach" and "The Sunflower Quilting Bee at Arles"
The Frank and Gertrude Kaiser Art Gallery at Molloy College will present an in-depth study of Faith Ringgold's "Tar Beach" and "The Sunflower Quilting Bee at Arles" for Black History Month. Faith Ringgold is an internationally known African-American artist who has exhibited throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Her accomplishments have been noted by numerous awards for her art as well as her children's books.

The exhibition will run from February 7 through March 28 and will feature the prints of Ms. Ringgold and accompanying materials and documents of biographical information, articles, awards and books.

On Thursday, March 21 at 3 p.m., the gallery will screen her documentary titled, "Faith Ringgold, The Last Story Quilt." The public is invited to attend. Admission is free.
