The Last Command (1928), the picture that won Emil Jannings the "Best Actor" award at the first-ever Academy awards, will be screened together with live music. Director Josef von Sternberg, tells the story of a power general (Jannings) in Czarist Russia who is reduced to poverty in America following the 1917 revolution. Working as an extra at a Hollywood studio, the former military commander is asked to play an officer in a war movie, causing flashbacks to his traumatic experiences and leading to a spectacular climax.
Screening is free and open to the public.
