Molloy professor interviewed by Classical Guitar Insider

By Anthony Vela

The host of Classical Guitar Insider Bret Williams, who is a master guitarist and a rising star of the classical guitar scene interviewed Molloy College professor Christopher Gotzen-Berg. Their entire interview can be download through iTunes.

Gotzen-Berg said he was excited to have been chosen for the interview.  "The host, Bret Williams, has created a very unique program with Classical Guitar Insider in a way that it is organic and natural in the nature of the interview, almost more like a conversation than an interview.  I am also honored to be included on a program that has hosted so many guitarists that I admire and respect. It is truly exciting."

Gotzen-Berg covered many subjects including his time as a student, moving to Long Island from the Capital NY region, former teachers, and teaching at Molloy College.

Professor Gotzen-Berg playing with his guitar class"Outside from working hard in the classroom to do the best job possible in educating students, I believe faculty need to always pursue ways to expand their careers in their fields of study. For me, every time I perform a concert, teach a master class, or do an interview such as this, as a faculty member of Molloy College I am representing our school. These things bring exposure to my department and the College, and could help a future student discover who we are and what we are doing that could motivate them to come and study here. Also, it shows that we have an active department."

Gotzen-Berg joined the Molloy College music department in the fall of 2013, and has taught Applied Guitar, Guitar Ensemble, Computer Music Writing, and History of the Guitar.

"In the Spring of 2013 I took my student guitar quartet, The Molloy Guitar Quartet (Mike Kelliher, Kevin Isaza, Kenneth Baracaldo, and Javier Roldan) to perform in guitar orchestras along side of the Grammy Award winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and Skidmore College. Former graduates from my studio have done internships at various locations as VuDu Recording Studios and the Austin Classical Guitar Society, and obtained jobs at such places as Samson Technologies.

Gotzen-Berg holds a B.M. and M.M. degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, and is NYS Teacher Certified. To learn more about him visit www.chrisgotzenberg.com.
