LIBN: Molloy College hosting business boot camp
June 19, 2012
Summer may be here, but for almost 100 high school students, beaches and bikinis will be taking a backseat next week to briefcases and business attire.
Rockville Centre-based Molloy College announced it has signed up 85 students from Long Island and Queens for its third annual business boot camp - a four-day crash course introducing students to business concepts. The students will hear lectures from current and former business executives on a variety of topics including investment banking, business ethics and landing an internship.
It's not just lectures though. Students will also participate in a stock market trading simulation game and a public speaking competition, before their "graduation" ceremony and banquet.
"We are pleased that - in just three years - this program has become a "must do" for so many high school students who are considering careers in business," said Stephen Bier, dean of Molloy's Division of Business. "Not only do we provide them with some great training that will serve them throughout their academic careers, but we also open their eyes to what the business world is really about. In doing that, we help them make decisions that could influence the rest of their lives."
