Dayna White - Psychology Major

Dayna White
"Molloy has opened my eyes up to so many possibilities. I had no idea what I wanted to do when I came here. My professors helped point me in the right direction."

"I came in as a freshman as 'undecided', took a class in psychology as part of my general education requirement and fell in love with the field," explains Dayna, a senior majoring in psychology who plans to attend graduate school next fall. This semester, she is interning at the Cold Spring Harbor Rehabilitation Center in the day care program for mentally ill adults, an experience she believes will enable her to further pinpoint what field of psychology she would like to pursue.

Dayna has already made a name for herself on the softball field as the catcher and designated hitter for the team that went to the 2013 NCAA Division II College World Series. Finishing the season 6 place out of 300 teams was an "incredible experience," according to Dayna who attends Molloy on a partial athletic/partial academic scholarship.

It's one of many memorable experiences Dayna says she's had at Molloy. She juggles the demands of playing on a top-ranked team with her role as the school's mascot, a job in the weight room and volunteering. A former Girl Scout who earned the coveted Gold Award, she was attracted to Molloy's commitment to giving back. Dayna and her softball teammates volunteer their time in a variety of ways, from their "Strike Out Cancer" fundraiser to participating in "Polar Bear" plunges, Special Olympics, clothing drives for Superstorm Sandy victims and other charitable events.

Her advice to other student-athletes considering Molloy? "Remember you're a student first. Choose a college where you'll get the best education possible. Then don't just go to class; get involved."
