Resumé Formats

Chronological: Preferred format of many employers. Use this format if your most recent education and/or experience is related to your career goal.

Functional: A useful format as career changes. Functional categories reflect skill areas.

Scannable: Resumés go into a database sorted by key words for specific job openings. “Hits” or key words include: B.S./B.A./B.S.N. leadership, customer service, computer terms and management.

Things to remember:

  • Keep typeface simple (under 12 pt. font)
  • Use white paper
  • Don't staple
  • Use separate lines to record different information
  • More than one page is acceptable
