Dominican Young Adults Service Trip

For three days in January, ten Molloy College students and Sister Diane od Campus Ministries experienced some wonderful days of service in both Lindenhurst and Long Beach. The students are part of the Dominican Young Adult Group. The group focuses on the four words of Dominican Life found in the Molloy College Mission Statement:

  • Study
  • Spirituality
  • Community
  • Service

For three days, they lived these words in all they did including where they stayed! The Dominican Sisters who live in Huntington Station graciously opened their home to the group. They were able to share prayer, meals and social time with the sisters.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lindenhurst served as the home base and the Molloy College group assisted in picking up and delivering furniture to locals in need, insulating, sheet rocking and painting homes damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Some of the students had been to New Orleans through Service Learning so their skills were most welcome!

They also visited St. Ignatius Parish in Long Beach. where Sister Diane Morgan, who works in the parish, took the students on a tour of the area and arranged for some people to come for an evening of pizza and conversation. It was an incredibly moving experience and the Molloy students sat and listened with such compassion and empathy! They were excellent Pastoral Counselors!!! What a powerful and blessed way to begin 2013! We look forward to more opportunities to serve!
