Do you love to decorate with flowers? Would you like to learn how to design floral and plant arrangements? Are you ready to acquire floral knowledge and design arrangements for your personal use? Is it time for a career change? Then, Molloy College's Continuing Education Floral Design program is perfect for you!

Learn from the best! The Floral Design program is taught by instructors/designers from
1-800-Flowers and offered at their headquarters/training facility located in Bethpage.

This program offers three levels of expertise, ranging from the basic level of design principles to the advanced level. Students must take courses in sequential order i.e., basic, intermediate then advanced.

In just a short time you will have new, exciting skills designed for your personal enjoyment, or for use as a new marketable career.

Instructor: Michael George, Special Events Coordinator and Head Designer for
1-800-Flowers. He has 35 years experience in the floral industry including design, parties, retail and sales of events.

Basic Floral Design
The key factors of design will be taught: color, balance, proportion and shape. Students will have a hands-on experience implementing these vital elements to make a beautiful arrangement properly. Emphasis will be placed on the use of proper materials, mechanics, and design standards. The care and handling of the most commonly used flowers, and working with various pieces of equipment used in design will be covered. Students will be taught to use their imaginations in both classic and contemporary composition. You will learn to see the beauty and magic in everything that grows around you! Intermediate Floral Design
This course covers the standard “Do’s & Don’ts” of floral design. You will learn the techniques for standard holiday and everyday arranging, as well as, corsage, special events and wedding work. The various techniques of product quality and floral standards will be taught. Prerequisite: FL-1001 or equivalent experience. Course Number: FL-1002,

Advanced Floral Design
This class is geared toward students who are looking at a future in floral design and sales. The latest techniques on floral arrangements will be taught. You will learn product care, maintenance and the proper and recommended sales techniques. Learn how to up-sell an arrangement from a bouquet to a “special event” arrangement. In 2005, Molloy College history was made when junior centerfielder, Joe Holden, from Wantagh, N.Y. was drafted by the New York Mets. Holden was picked in the 21st round of the 2005 Major League Baseball first-year player draft. Holden is the first player in the 14-year history of the baseball program to be drafted. Holden, also named the Northeast Region Player of the Year and the NYCAC Player of the Year, had an incredible season for the Lions. He hit .390 with 49 runs scored, 16 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 50 RBI. Holden had a .744 slugging percentage, a .462 on base percentage, a .973 fielding percentage and stole 14 bases for Molloy. He finished 10th in the NYCAC in batting average, third in hits, first in runs, first in RBI, fourth in triples, first in home runs, first in total bases and third in stolen bases. In the Nation, he finished the season ranked 19th in home runs and 27th in slugging percentage.
