Laboratory Technician
The Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Studies Department at Molloy College currently seeks a qualified individual to complete a wide range of laboratory preparations and procedures within a congenial environment and maintain confidentiality in departmental matters.
Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Maintenance of the Biological Preparations Rooms (K104, K105A)
- Prepare stock media, prepare media for weekly exercises and student use. Ensure that experiments will work as expected
- Work with departmental faculty to maintain safety standards
- Set up and take down material daily for all Biology laboratory courses
- Put apparatus and equipment away when classes are finished. Make sure that equipment is working properly
- Work with departmental faculty to maintain cleanliness of biology laboratories
- Waste collection and management for biology laboratories
- Cleaning of glassware and other apparatus
- Supervision and Training of undergraduate student workers
- Assist Administrative Assistants in ordering and distribution of supplies as needed. Keep track of orders received and outstanding
- Compile computer-based inventory list of biological specimen, chemicals and equipment used for biology laboratories. Update inventory list as needed
- Update MSDS books as needed
- Assist faculty teaching BIO257, BIO 480, BIO 481 in ordering of supplies, the preparation of media, chemicals, equipment, etc. and other tasks as deemed necessary in consultation with the Chairperson
- Provide additional assistance as requested by the Chairperson
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Biology or Bachelor's Degree in Biology with previous relevant working experience (minimum of 1-2 years)
- Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
