This course will provide an overview of all areas covered on the AP Psychology exam and will aid participants in developing both the content and the structure of their class. Particular attention will be given to:
• Test taking techniques and how to prepare students for the AP exam
• Developing a course syllabus
• Promoting active student learning through demonstrations and activities
• The recently overhauled unit on Treatment of Disorders
• Research design
If possible, participants should bring a laptop, a copy of the text book they will be using, and, if they have taught any level of psychology before, a few of their favorite lesson plans and other resources to share.
Instructor: Allyson Weseley has been teaching for 24 years at Roslyn High School, where she teaches AP Psychology and mentors students working on empirical research projects in the behavioral sciences.
Allyson is one of the authors of the Barron's How to Prepare for the AP Psychology Exam review book. She has also served as a Reader and Table Leader for the AP Psychology exam and as the Member-at-Large of Teachers of Psychology in the Secondary Schools (TOPSS). Allyson has published two exercises in Volume 4 of the American Psychological Association's activities book, an APA-sponsored guide for teachers interested in involving their students in science fairs, and numerous empirical articles with her students.
Allyson majored in Psychology at Princeton University, received a master's degree in Teaching, Curriculum and Learning Environments from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and earned a doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is one of the founders of the Long Island High School Psychology Fair and has served on the boards of a number of organizations dedicated to encouraging high school student research.

The AP* Summer Institutes may either be taken for 3 graduate credits for $900 (no additional fees) or on a non-credit basis for in-service credits for $795 (no additional fees). You tuition includes: complimentary continental breakfast and lunch each day, approved College Board materials, complimentary textbooks (depending upon the institute) and a binder of handouts from the instructor.
You must attend each day to receive in-service credit. If you are taking the course for graduate credit, in addition to attending the institute each day, there is a project that is due within 2 weeks of the conclusion of the institute.
The registration deadline is three weeks prior to the start date of each institute. Late registration may be possible if space and materials are still available.
