Our education department develops your competency in content knowledge, preparation, instructional delivery, classroom management, student development and assessment, collaboration and reflective and responsive practice. We will fire up your passion for teaching. Education is a multi-dimensional profession, so to help you better understand the challenges of the contemporary classroom, we will guide you through the philosophical, historical and sociological foundations of education. These ABC's of education will form a strong knowledge base that will serve you well throughout your teaching career.
Teaching candidates may seek preparation for an initial New York state teaching certificate in:
- Childhood education
- Childhood/special education
- Adolescence education
- Adolescence/special education
Special Subjects
- Music education
- Pre K-12
- Visual arts education
- Pre K -12
Semester Abroad Opportunity
Teacher candidates may complete their student teaching experience (professional semester) in England through a special program in conjunction with the University College of St. Martin, Lancaster, England. See education faculty for requirements and more information.
