Academic Computer Labs
A total of 70 WinXP and 21 Mac computers are available to students in the Academic Computer Lab located on the second floor of the Wilbur Arts building. The entire Molloy community utilizes this academic resource area. The labs are networked and house peripherals including laser printers, color printers and scanners. The lab personnel provide a supportive, positive environment for students to learn, practice and improve their computer skills. To enhance the classroom experience, Computer Assisted Instructional (CAI) software and CD tutorials are available. For typing term papers and for computer assignments, the Academic Computer Labs offer open access to students 12 months a year for 83 hours a week. Technical assistance is always available during the posted hours.
Software packages available include Microsoft Office Professional, Corel Word Perfect, internet and email. The Macintosh applications available are Adobe (Illustrator, PhotoShop, Persuasion and Premier), QuarkExpress, Fractal Painter and Microsoft Office. The programming languages used in the labs are Visual Basic and C++. To enhance the educational experience, students are required to have a Molloy College email account. Students may arrange for an account by signing an email agreement obtained from the Academic Computer Labs in W205 Wilbur Arts Center, from the media services in K211 Kellenberg Hall, from the in K212 Kellenberg Hall or from student services in K006 Kellenberg Hall. Computer use policies can be found in the IT section of the website, which explains the responsibilities of users of computer technology and the internet.
The James Edward Tobin Library, located on the second floor of Kellenberg Hall, is open to all members of the Molloy College community. The College ID serves as the library borrowing card.
Library hours for the fall and spring semesters are: Monday–Thursday from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Reference librarians are available during all Library hours for assistance with research. Please contact the library for hours during intersession and summer semesters.
There are 12 computer workstations in the Main Reference Room of the library. Students have access to the internet and a variety of online, electronic databases, both from the computers in the library, as well as remote access from off-campus.
A reference library is available to students taking courses at the Suffolk Extension Center. Both libraries are wireless. Students access from both on and off campus an extensive collection of electronic databases including, but not limited to EBSCO's Academic Search Premier, ERIC, Health Source Nursing Academic Edition, Proquest Direct, ABI Inform Global, OCLC's First Search, CINAHL Plus with Full-Text, LEXIS-NEXIS, CCH, Standard and Poor's, Medline, and DOCLINE. The Library's catalog is run on "Voyager" software. Faculty use Docutek's "E-Reserves" to place periodical articles on electronic reserve. Faculty and students may borrow books and obtain articles that are unavailable at Molloy through inter-library loan. There is also an extensive collection of over 600 print journals and periodicals in the library. The Media Services Department, ext. 6237, offers a wide range of educational videos and DVDs as well as providing video and audio equipment for student and faculty use.
