Music Therapy is an established, well-respected health care profession that uses music to address the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of individuals and Molloy College offers the only Bachelor’s Degree Program in Music Therapy on Long Island and Manhattan approved by the American Music Therapy Association.
As a Music Therapist you can play an important role in improving the outlook of those with medical concerns, meeting the special needs of emotionally fragile children and enriching the lives of senior citizens. You can experience all this through communication with music and the necessary theoretical knowledge, physical techniques and clinical experience offered only at Molloy College.
Our Music Therapy program is interdisciplinary and incorporates a music curriculum as well as coursework in Psychology. Molloy College professors will encourage and monitor your progress as a musician, teach you guidelines for patient evaluations and provide models for treatment. Coursework includes music in therapy, training in clinical improvisation, music therapy laboratory experiences and field work at clinical sites on Long Island and the surrounding metropolitan area.
The exciting culmination of your training for a degree in Music Therapy is an internship, to be completed senior year. You will take the skills you have acquired from your studies at Molloy College on the road and interact with children in special school settings, or work hands-on with patients at some of the best local medical facilities.
Graduates are also eligible to sit for the National Board Certification Exam in Music Therapy leading to the professional credential Musical Therapy – Board Certified (MT-BC).
Our unique, multidimensional program is designed for you, the student who is serious about Music Therapy and seeks the skills and degree necessary to work as a Music Therapist in health care, educational and private settings.
