Muriel Harris Weinstein's poems have appeared in The Comstock Review, Nassau Review, Kent State Review, Nexus, The Cape Rock, and many other literary journals and anthologies. In addition to being an award-winning poet, Ms. Weinstein is an award-winning children's book author. Her children's picture book, When Louis Armstrong Taught Me Scat (Chronicle Books, 2008), written in poetry, scat, bebop and other rhythmic forms, won the national Junior Library Guild Award. In addition, her most recent book, the children's chapter book Play Louis Play (Bloomsbury USA, 2010), a jazz inflected, exuberant biography of Louis Armstrong creatively told from the point of view of his horn, was recently nominated for the biggest state award in the country, the Texas Blue Bonnet Award.
Valerie Griggs, a member of Molloy College's Writing Center and its English Department, has published over thirty poems in literary journals, such as The Ledge, Bitterroot, and Silver Wings Review, published articles in Weavings and Alive Now! Magazines, and also written a week of meditations for The Upper Room's annual devotional book Disciplines. Having turned to song writing in the last several years, she recorded two CDs of her original music, Around the Far Turn and Wings Are Waiting. Her performances are memorable.
