Two Molloy College honors students selected to present at honors conference

By Anthony Vela
Senior Accounting Major Salvatore Ubaldini and Junior Nursing Student Nazish Khalid, both in the Molloy College Honors Program, were selected to present at the Northeast Regional Honors Conference in Niagara Falls this April. The Theme of this year's conference is "Standing on the Edge: Challenging Boundaries and Power".

"After being selected to present at the Northeast Regional Honors Conference I was immediately filled with excitement and was ready to take on this unique challenge. I look forward to assimilating teaching techniques used by my own professors from Molloy during my brief yet encompassing presentation," said Ubaldini.

"It is an honor to be given this opportunity to represent Molloy College at the Northeast Regional Honors Conference. I am so excited," said Khalid.

Ubaldini's presentation, which is tentatively entitled "Emergent Economies and Markets," will cover topics from how Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) used in the U.S. are different from the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) used by over 150 other countries. "I will explain how establishing a uniform accounting code will bring transparency in the global business markets, and what obstacles must be embraced and overcome in order to achieve this vision," said Ubaldini.

While Khalid's presentation is tentatively entitled "Gender roles: Formation, consequences, and possibilities for change."  "My presentation addresses the gender and occupational hierarchy that exists between doctors and nurses, and how that could force them to assume an inferior role.  As a result, nurse practitioners are stepping up to the plate, challenging boundaries and demanding more autonomy and independence in administering and practicing medicine," said Khalid.

Both Ubaldini and Khalid found out about the conference from Honors Program Director at Molloy College Professor Daniel McGann.

"Molloy College is extremely proud to have Salvatore and Nazish selected to present. This is the first time that any student from Molloy was selected to present at the Northeast Regional Conference or the National Conference," said McGann.
