Nassau County-Molloy College Public/Private Partnership Opens New State-of-the-Art Baseball Field
On April 25, 2014, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex in Uniondale, marking the opening of a new state-of-the-art NCAA baseball field. The extensive renovation was accomplished as a public/private partnership whereby Nassau County supplied the land and Molloy College the capital to replace the field. Both residents and college athletes will benefit from this public-private partnership.
Molloy College has entered into a twenty-year license agreement with Nassau County to use the baseball field, which features artificial turf, new dugouts and a new scoreboard. The partnership creates an NCAA-regulation baseball field which Molloy College students will utilize as well as providing the County with a cost-free upgraded facility that will be used by Nassau residents and athletic groups throughout the year.
"This is a smart partnership that establishes a top baseball facility in Nassau County," said Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano. "Our local sports organizations and indeed, all the residents of Nassau County, are gaining a first-class synthetic surface field at no cost to the taxpayers."
"We are pleased to be partnering with Nassau County on this project," said Drew Bogner, Ph.D. and President of Molloy. "The new all-weather surface will be a great home for Molloy baseball in the spring and will expand the public availability and utilization of the field throughout the entire year."
