More than 40 Malverne kids participate in baseball camp run by Molloy College head coach Joe Fucarino.
Molloy College coach Joe Fucarino is familiar with the baseball scene in Malverne. As a former little league player and a graduate of Malverne High School, he has played on all the teams and fields in town.
"I played here and I know the people, and I wanted to do something to give back to the community I was brought up in," he recently told Patch.
Joe's donation was a week-long instructional baseball camp that took place at Whelan Field in Malverne from June 27 to July 1.
"I thought a week-long baseball camp would be a beneficial thing for the kids by teaching them skills and letting them get outside and have some fun," he said.
Forty-one campers participated in various training exercises including drills focused on infield and outfield catching, base running, hitting, pitching and throwing.
For the past 11 years, Fucarino has been running a similar camp at Molloy College, where he coaches baseball. He teamed up with his assistant coach, Mike Callahan, and some of his players to help work with the kids.
He added, "The whole event is a good thing for the Malverne community and goes for a good cause by helping to raise money for the local little league teams."
