Financial Aid Counselor

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Determine financial aid eligibility and award student aid in accordance with federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations
  • Counsel students and parents on all aspects of aid programs and financing options
  • Responsible for updating all institutional scholarships
  • Responsible for researching and maintaining outside scholarship database to inform students of scholarship resources and availability
  • Serve as a Liaison to the HEOP Office, counsel HEOP students on their financial aid package needs, and monitor HEOP awards
  • Responsible to manage the college Loan Default Prevention Program
  • Responsible for determining eligibility, awarding and monitoring Nursing Faculty Loan Program (NFLP)
  • Responsible for determining eligibility, awarding and monitoring of Federal Trio Program
  • Responsible for determining eligibility, awarding and monitoring the Federal Teach Grant Program
  • Responsible for determining eligibility, and monitoring Book credit refunds
  • Responsible for monitoring on campus housing budget, and aid adjustments 
  • Responsible for updating the Financial Aid section of the College Catalog
  • Responsible for administering the colleges Honor Convocation Program, and Class Night Scholarship Program
  • Responsible for updating Undergraduate Assistantship Program awards
  • Participate in workshops, open houses, and orientation meetings both on and off campus
  • Other duties and projects as required and assigned by the Director

Desired Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with federal financial aid programs and regulations required for this position
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a diverse dynamic team of professionals
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Weekend and evening hours required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Jenzabar, PowerFAIDS, and other related financial aid software preferred
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Financial Aid programs and regulations

Reports To: 

The Financial Aid Counselor will report to the Director of Financial Aid, Associate Director of Financial Aid and the Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
