Music Therapist

Programs at The Rebecca Center for Music Therapy at Molloy College are aimed at discovering the unique potentials in every child through interactive musical-play in order to facilitate engagement, relatedness, communication, and thinking.  In creating a non-judgmental, musically and emotionally supportive theraputic atmosphere, with clear boundaries that provide the child with a sense of security, the child can discover emotional and behavioral self-regulation through engaging in interactive musical-play. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct MT sessions (individuals and small groups) in a fast paced environment
  • Consistent communication with parents of our clients
  • Include parents to participate in sessions; facilitating partnerships between parents and therapist
  • Train parents in music therapy techniques
  • Parent meetings
  • Participate in staff development
  • Assist in scheduling sessions, handling and documenting financial transactions
  • Responsible for reporting to the program coordinator
  • Engage in research

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Music Therapy
  • MT-BC 
  • LCAT (or working towards)
  • Excellent musical skills is required
  • Experienced in clinical improvisation
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience working with children with ASDs
  • Working knowledge of Nordoff-Robins Music Therapy
  • Working knowledge of the DIR/Floortime Model
  • Understanding/knowledge of child development (social-emotional development)
  • Research experience
  • The ability to communicate skills in regards to speaking with staff, faculty members, and parents
  • Experienced in supervising music therapy students, and volunteers
  • Excellent writing skills is required
  • Organizational skills with the ability to be a team player is required 
  • Experienced in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel
