Buddy and Chris Haunss

This award recognizes an outstanding community leader whose professional career has been marked by extraordinary personal and professional accomplishments.

Henry W. "Buddy" Haunss is a Managing Director of Sentinel Real Estate Investment Corporation, a privately owned real estate advisory company, where he is responsible for new business development, fund raising and other corporate responsibilities. Prior to joining the firm in 2011, Mr. Haunss was a Partner with AREA Property Partners for 8.5 years, concentrating on acquisitions, fund raising and other corporate opportunities. Mr. Haunss was previously a Managing Director and a member of the Investment Committee at UBS Realty Investors LLC, where he was head of real estate debt and equity investments in the United States for non-US clients. He held that position for over 20 years.

Mr. Haunss is a graduate of CW Post College with a degree in accounting. He holds the Certified Property Manager (CPM) and Counselor of Real Estate (CRE) designations and is a license real estate broker. Mr. Haunss is a founding member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM) and the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE), and has served on the board of each of these organizations. He is also an active member of the Urban Land Institute and serves on the Board of Trustees of Camp Tecumseh in Moultonboro, New Hampshire. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees at St. Francis Hospital, Mercy Medical Center and New York University's Real Estate Education Advisory Board. Mr. Haunss is also a founding board member of the Japan Retail Fund Investment Corporation, which is a public J-REIT specializing in retail properties.

Chris Haunss was born and raised in Rockville Centre, NY. A devoted member of the RVC community, she has spent her entire life thoroughly involved in numerous aspects of the village. She attended and graduated from both St. Agnes Cathedral grammar and high school. She earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from the NY State University at New Paltz and taught in the Merrick school system for several years. She has been married for 43 years to Buddy Haunss and they have resided in RVC for the last 40.

Following her teaching career, Chris focused her talents and time raising their 4 children, Janine, Allison, Lauren and Christopher and now spends quality time with the family including 3 grandchildren, Tyler, Chase and Brooke as well as daughter-in-law Christine and son-in-law Dave.

From the sidelines of the ball fields to the front row of the school and senior center musicals, she has been and continues to be an ever loving presence in the RVC community.

Always with a smile, and open heart and humility, Chris has shown quietly what it means to serve.
